Introducing NCUK

NCUK is a unique provider of pathways programmes through which international students can gain access to Higher Education in the UK and worldwide. We are a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Northern Consortium, a charity founded by UK universities. We have supported the progression of over 45,000 international students to our partner universities and we have a well-established reputation for delivering high-quality educational programmes and associated services.

We offer a range of high-quality programmes that combine the highest academic standards with the development of exceptional language, study and cultural skills. In conjunction with NCUK’s excellent student placement service, NCUK programmes provide students with the best route to university in the UK and selected other countries.

The Opportunity

We are seeking to recruit a Non-Executive Director (NED) to join our Board of Directors with specific skills and experience in finance. We are particularly interested in applications from people with:

  • prior experience as a NED;
  • senior experience in strategic financial management and audit, ideally in UK higher education;
  • experience as an employee or NED in a small and medium enterprise (SMEs) or an ability to adapt their experience to suit oversight of an SME.

In order to make a full contribution to our Board, it will be important to ensure that individuals are free from conflicts of interest or that any potential for actual or perceived conflict of interest can be easily managed.

Our Board members are expected to prepare for and attend four Board of Directors meetings annually, and to take part in at least one sub-committee of the Board, normally involving two additional meetings per year. The postholder for this finance specialist role will be asked to chair our Business Assurance Committee (which is similar in remit to a Finance, Audit and Risk Committee).

The role attracts a taxable, non-superannuable fee of £3,200 per annum, paid quarterly (and subject to an inflationary increase effective from the anticipated start date for this position).

Closing Date

Applications for the posts will close on Friday 22 December 2023. First stage interviews will be held remotely in early January 2024 with final interviews likely to be held in person in London or Manchester in late January 2024.

The full dates for the 2024 meetings of the Board of Directors are:
