NCUK Student Counsellor Training  – Student Support & Applications

Over the course of this event, attendees will be able to participate in a range of sessions delivered by experts from across the NCUK Global Network to gain a better understanding of university admissions and student support processes.

What happens at the Student Counsellor Training?

We will be covering all ranges of topics from; Study Centre onboarding processes, student application management, UCAS essentials, Scholarships & Accommodation, Visas and Immigration and many others.

  • You will have the opportunity to meet staff from long-standing NCUK Centres and share experiences and network together.
  • We will also be holding panel discussions and valuable insights from our NCUK University Partners as well as a chance to ask them any questions or topics to converse.

Agenda – 14 May

The NCUK Counsellor Training will be delivered through a full day event that will cover multiple topics and welcome a range of speakers. The session will take place from 09:00 – 16.30 (CST)

The event will take place at Crowne Plaza Beijing Lido, No.6 Jiangtai Road, Chaoyang District, Beijing

'Registration & Ice break' 09:00 - 09:15 (CST)

Register at the desk and join NCUK staff and Study Centre partners for the first session of the day.

'Welcome Speech ' 09:15 - 09:30 (CST)

Harry Feng, NCUK Regional Director will welcome attendees and provide insights into NCUK China’s mission, values and goals.

'Studying in the UK: Visa & Immigration ' 09:30 - 10:30 (CST)

Lewis Ryan, NCUK Student Support Manager, will provide valuable guidance to attendees on the visa application process and immigration requirements. Attendees will hear practical tips and advice on preparing a strong visa application, gathering necessary documents and avoiding common pitfalls. This session aims to equip participants with the knowledge and confidence to successfully support students who need to navigate the visa and immigration system.

'Planning for arrival: Accommodation & Scholarships ' 10:30 - 11.00 (CST)

In this session, Lewis Ryan and Amber Wang will provide essential information to help support students preparing for their university studies. Attendees will also gain an overview of scholarship opportunities at NCUK University Partners, eligibility criteria and application requirements.

'Coffee break and networking' 11.00 - 11:15 (CST)

During this time, attendees can enjoy complimentary coffee, tea, and light refreshments while networking with NCUK staff and attendees.

'All about UCAS Applications' - 11:15 - 12:15 (CST)

In this session, Lewis Ryan and Amber Wang will provide comprehensive guidance on navigating the UCAS application process for international students. They will address common questions and concerns, to make sure that attendees have a clear understanding of the UCAS application process and how to best support NCUK students.

'Lunch and networking' 12:15 - 13:15 (CST)

This break offers attendees a chance to refuel, recharge and connect with others.

'Discovering the rest of world: Applying outside UK' 13:15 - 14:00 (CST)

This session opens up a world of opportunities for students considering higher education beyond the United Kingdom. This informative session will explore the application processes, requirements, and benefits of applying to universities in various NCUK study destinations.

'Sharing experiences: Study Centre spotlight' - 14:00 - 15:00 (CST)

Wayne Hao, Director of NCUK Shenyang/Shenzhen/HIT-Weihai, will share valuable insights and lessons learned from their experience leading established NCUK Study Centres in this session. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the challenges, successes, and best practices in student counselling.

'Global opportunities: University Panel Discussion' 15:00 - 16:00 (CST)

During this session, attendees will have the unique opportunity to engage with representatives from four NCUK University Partners. The panel discussion will provide valuable insights into the diverse range of academic programs, research opportunities, and student experiences offered by these institutions. The panellists will also address common questions and concerns related to the application process, student life, and career prospects.

'Innovating for the future' - 16:00 - 16:30 (CST)

In this session, Harry Feng, Peter Li, and Lewis Ryan will lead a dynamic discussion on the key takeaways from the event. Harry Feng, Regional Director of NCUK China, will provide a strategic overview of the organisation’s goals and how the insights gained from the event can shape future initiatives. Peter Li, NCUK Student Recruitment Manager, will focus on the implications for student recruitment and how to leverage the event’s outcomes to attract more students. Lewis Ryan, Student Support Manager, will discuss how the event’s findings can enhance student support services and ensure a seamless transition for incoming students.

This session will be followed by closing remarks and a group photo.
