Successful alumni joined staff, VIPs and distinguished guests to help celebrate a very special occasion for the Sino-British College (SBC) recently. 2016 is the 10th anniversary of SBC – a unique collaboration between British and Chinese higher education. Representatives from the nine UK universities that are part of the SBC joint venture – Bradford, Huddersfield, Leeds, Leeds Beckett, Liverpool John Moores, Manchester Metropolitan, Salford, Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam – were also in the audience at the birthday event in Shanghai on Saturday 3 September.

Since the college began providing pathway programmes, 550 international students from 30 counties have chosen to study on the SBC campus. During the same period, nearly 3,000 students have progressed onto degree programmes in the UK. Ken Gill, NCUK’s Chief Executive and Neil McLean, Chair of NCUK’s Board of Directors, were invited to receive a Special Contribution Award at the event.

The award was made in recognition of the significant role that NCUK has had in establishing SBC. Speaking at the event, SBC Principal and Chief Executive Officer, Professor John Wilson, shared his plans for the future development of the college:

This is a hugely exciting time to be in China, to be in Shanghai. We believe our ambitions should match the times and we believe Vision 2025 does so.
