Australia extends graduate visas for international students!
There has been some exciting news for students looking to work in Australia. International students can now work up to 6-7 years following graduation from Australian universities!
Overseas graduates in almost 400 Australian bachelor’s and master’s courses will be eligible for an extra 2 years of post-study work rights from July. This is in addition to the work rights eligible students can already receive. This means that depending on qualification and occupation, students will be able to stay for between 4-5 years in cities like Sydney and Melbourne and between 6-7 years in cities like Perth, Adelaide and Newcastle once they graduate.
Students who begin work as Nurses, Software Engineers and Geotechnical Engineers will all be eligible for the additional work rights as will students who enter many other occupations. As full list of the in-demand roles can be found on the Australian Government’s Skills Priority List.
There has also been good news for students who wish to work part-time while they complete their degrees. The limit on student working hours is also being raised from 40-48 hours each fortnight from July (equivalent to 3 days a week). This means that it has never been easier for students to support themselves while they study in Australia! As of 1 July 2022 the National Minimum Wage in Australia is $21.38 AUD per hour.
