University Foundation College has become NCUK’s latest partner and their first in the State of Qatar. The Partnership was officially announced at the Ritz Carlton, Doha, on Wednesday 17th May by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. The event was also attended by Dr Muthana Al Kubaisy, Director, Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Frank Fitzpatrick, Director, British Council Qatar and Maria McKenna, NCUK’s Regional Director.

University Foundation College, a first of its kind in the region, is a new entrant in the education sector in Qatar approved by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education to offer NCUK International Foundation Year (IFY), which guarantees progression to thousands of degrees at leading universities. The IFY 36-week programme will be a ‘bridge’ between high school education in Qatar and an undergraduate degree in the UK and elsewhere. The programme develops the learning skills, subject knowledge and English language skills to enable students to become independent and autonomous learners. The College is situated in the Madinat Khalifa South district of Doha and opens its doors in September 2017.

The project is fully endorsed and supported by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. He has demonstrated his commitment and desire to offer NCUK foundation preparation qualifications in Qatar to benefit the development and learning of students in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030.

In fact, there are several benefits for University Foundation College students who will enrol on the IFY as they will obtain a quality qualification that meets the highest academic standards, taught by qualified staff and is also widely recognised by universities in the UK and internationally. Moreover, the IFY qualification is comparable with ‘A level’ qualifications widely accepted for admission to universities globally.
