NCUK and SBC – The First 10 Years

Manchester Town Hall was the venue for an evening reception to mark 10 years of successful collaboration in China.

SBC – the Sino-British College – is a unique project in the world of transnational education. It brings together nine UK universities and a Chinese partner, the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST) to deliver a wide range of pathway programmes. As part of the partnership, which was launched in 2006, NCUK provides the curriculum for the programmes and they hosted the event on Friday 9 September as an anniversary celebration.

Special guests at the event included President Hu from USST, Liu Bin, Secretary of the Joint Party Branch and Deputy Director of the USST Campus Management Committee and Professor John Wilson, Principal and Chief Executive Officer at SBC. Three SBC alumni who are just starting their careers were also invited and took centre stage speaking about their study experiences on the Shanghai campus.

NCUK’s Chief Executive Ken Gill presented the VIPs from USST and SBC with commemorative gifts at the event. “SBC is an example of sustained international partnership,” he said, “as trusting partners, we have learned from each other and shared best practice as acknowledged by independent reviews and reports by the UK Quality Assurance Agency and the Chinese Government. This is just the beginning of the next part of the journey for the ambitious development of SBC.”
