The webinar will be recorded and made available on the NCUK Teachers’ Hub.
In this webinar, we will explore definitions about what is meant by pastoral care, why it is important and how we deliver a pastoral care programme to students on our campus. It will be good to hear and share your own ideas on pastoral care, explore what policies and practices you may wish to develop and get support and help from our team in setting up your own pastoral care scheme. Colleagues from Aston University will be presenting information during this webinar that will be beneficial to your own understanding of pastoral care.
To start your resource pack of support we have shared a link to a great site:
NAPCE was founded in 1982 to establish links between education professionals and allied agencies who have an interest in pastoral care and personal-social education and the welfare of students of all ages in schools.
Q: From what you hear at this seminar, we will ask you to share your own ideas on pastoral care, and how these might be developed to address the welfare and wellbeing of your students?
You might like to consider this statement as a starting point: Pastoral care will mean different things in different contexts and there is no one agreed definition. It might involve counselling, sustaining, open door guidance, guiding, reconciling, peer support, mentoring and nurturing of students mixed with promoting and supporting self-efficacy, healthy risk-taking, goal setting, negotiation, reflection, empowerment, and a welfare network. It might be all these and more.
