About Liverpool
Liverpool, famously the birth place of The Beatles with an estimated population of over 500,000, it is a city thriving in the day and night. Places to visit
Liverpool is home to premier league football teams Liverpool FC and Everton.
If you’re a football fan, Anfield, Liverpool FCs home stadium, is well worth a visit. The sixth largest stadium in the UK, you can visit and watch their first team play or see one of Liverpool’s many other teams such as under 21s, their women’s team or their second team play. If you don’t fancy watching a match, you can always go on a stadium tour and experience the stadium when a football match isn’t taking place!
The Royal Albert Dock is rows of red-bricked buildings holding museums, shops, café and bars, a picturesque place to visit overlooking the River Mersey. The docks have many different exciting activities on for example, mini festivals like Pirates on the Dock, comedy shows, markets and sports.
For a bit of culture, you could visit the Walker Art Gallery home to renaissance masterpieces from The Tudors etc. and contemporary pieces from the likes of Bridget Riley. One bonus of the gallery is it is free admissions excluding special editions where you may have to pay a little to get in.
Social Events
Throughout the week most of the clubs and bars around Liverpool offer student discounts. Comedy is flourishing in the heart of Liverpool and a must-see event is the Liverpool Comedy Central Club.
The Liverpool Empire Theatre has many different productions from all over the country giving an unforgettable experience. For a different theatre experience, visit the Playhouse theatre which shows classic and contemporary productions.
Food
The food around Liverpool varies from food truck goodness to sleek dining experiences. You can have a variety of foods from around the world, such as Italian, Brazilian, American but if you would rather try British foods, then there’s plenty to choose from. Liverpool is famous for its Scouse, a stew of meat and vegetables served with crusty bread and beetroot or red cabbage, which is how Liverpool got their nickname ‘Scousers’. Scouse is such an important part of Liverpool’s culture they have a day to celebrate it called Global Scouse Day which takes place every year in February.
Shopping
If you have a style for vintage clothing you will love Bold Street where you can find a selection of independent shops to suit a range of tastes. For a beautiful shopping experience by the waterfront, you can visit Liverpool One, catering for people who enjoy shopping, good food, delicious drinks, a cinematic extravaganza or just a sit down on the grass to enjoy the weather. With over 1.6 million square feet of a shopping centre and over 100 shops you will thoroughly enjoy the day out. Liverpool One offers many deals to provide students a fantastic time.
Transport
Liverpool has many different transport options , including Merseyrail trains. It has 66 different stations in and around Liverpool and runs throughout the day. There is a bus which is managed by Merseytravel that has different ticket options for the best value for travel.
Another mode of transport that is owned by Merseytravel is the Ferry where you can cross over the Wirral Peninsula enjoying the scenic view with commentary. Liverpool has its own international airport, and is just 30 mins by car from the city centre.
