NCUK Partners with UPC in Peru – Launch Event

Posted:

NCUK is proud to have partnered with Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC) in Peru, ranked No. 1 amongst Peru’s newer universities, formed within the past 50 years. UPC will be teaching the NCUK International Foundation Year (IFY) and the NCUK International Year One (IYOne) qualifications from March 2018.

To celebrate this exciting new partnership and introduce it to the Peruvian market, UPC and NCUK organised a spectacular launch event that took place on Wednesday 21st June 2017 at the Westin Hotel in Lima, Peru. The launch event was attended by approximately 150 delegates and included key speeches from Dr. Edward Roekaert, Rector UPC; Anwar Choudhury, British Ambassador to Peru; and Gemma Smith, Head of International Recruitment at Liverpool John Moores University. A presentation on what the NCUK/UPC partnership means for ambitious Peruvian students was also delivered by Andrew Straughan, NCUK Market Development Manager.

The event was not only a celebration of a brand-new British-Peruvian collaboration but also of the UK as a student destination. A UK theme was felt throughout, from the presence of a bright-red London bus to a band playing a mixture of well-known songs from the Beatles to the Rolling Stones!

The launch event also received wide, national Peruvian press coverage with a slideshow of pictures from the night appearing in El Comercio – Peru’s leading national newspaper! Pictures from this article can be found here.

“UPC have evidenced many of the values and ambitions that are key to NCUK. Their continual growth and development into one of Peru’s leading education institutions, is extremely impressive and we are delighted that they are joining the NCUK network.

The launch event was a huge success and the large volume of education leaders from across the Peruvian network in attendance demonstrates the continued passion towards delivering high quality education and opportunities to students. It also highlights the excitement that this brand new and unique partnership in Peru brings.”

The launch event was part of a programme of wider activities including an NCUK School Counsellor’s Conference which looked to critically evaluate the key factors Peruvian students consider when deciding to choose their international study destination. There were also a series of interactive training sessions such as that delivered by Ruth Lauener International Officer, University of Sheffield on the important parts of a UK university application.

The week concluded with a series of visits to leading Peruvian schools. This allowed students the opportunity to engage directly with NCUK, UPC and the four NCUK University representatives in attendance (University of Sheffield, University of Bradford, University of Kent, and Liverpool John Moores University).
