Professor Carl Stychin appointed as chair of NCUK’s Board of Directors

NCUK is delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Carl Stychin as Chair of the Northern Consortium UK Limited’s Board of Directors. Professor Stychin has acted as interim Chair since February 2024 and brings with him a wealth of knowledge and leadership experience in higher education and academic quality assurance. His appointment into the role on a permanent basis follows a competitive process led by the Board of Trustees of the Northern Consortium.
Professor Stychin commented: “I am very pleased to be given the opportunity to continue to support NCUK and the Northern Consortium charity as Chair of the Board of Directors. I have seen first-hand that NCUK is committed to the highest quality educational provision and that the team is passionate about its growing international presence. I look forward to working closely with the team, the Board of Directors, our charitable owners, and our stakeholders to ensure that NCUK delivers on its ambitious plans for the future”.
Professor Stychin is currently the Director of the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies at the University of London. His impressive academic journey began with degrees from the University of Alberta, the University of Toronto, and Columbia Law School in New York City. This educational foundation paved the way for his distinguished academic career, which commenced at Keele University in 1992.
Over the years, Professor Stychin has held several prestigious positions, including professorships and senior management roles at the University of Reading and The City Law School, City, University of London. Notably, he was awarded a Doctor of Laws degree from the University of Reading in 2009, recognising his significant contributions to the field of law.
Beyond his contributions to academia, Professor Stychin plays an influential role in various governance capacities. He is a member of the Board of Governance at Nelson College London and sits on the Governance Board of the Patent Examination Board of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys. His commitment to education and professional standards is further demonstrated through his involvement as an Education Visitor for both the General Optical Council and the General Pharmaceutical Council.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the social sciences, Carl was elected a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in 2014, underscoring his dedication to advancing knowledge and fostering academic excellence.
