Life at Bangor University

Student life at Bangor University combines a friendly and close-knit community with a vibrant range of opportunities both on and off campus. From joining one of the many sports clubs and societies to attending student events, volunteering, and exploring the stunning coastline and mountains of North Wales, there is always something to get involved in. The location, the scenery and the surrounding area add another dimension to student life. You can climb mountains in Snowdonia, surf on the beaches of Anglesey, row the Menai Strait, or just take in the breathtaking views. Our Internship Scheme offers all students the opportunity to apply for a paid internships hosted by a university department – an opportunity to gain valuable work experience and build confidence and contacts. We encourage and enable our students and graduates to explore self-employment and entrepreneurship through workshops, events, competitions and initiatives, and can offer business mentoring and start-up advice.

We also offer a Careers Studio Drop-In service, available Monday to Friday from 10:00am to 3:00pm during term time. Students can drop in and speak with our friendly Student Career Coaches for advice and support on careers, applications, CVs, and job opportunities – no appointment required.

One of Bangor’s biggest advantages is its compact campus, with lecture buildings, libraries, student accommodation, and support services all within walking distance, meaning most students rarely need to use public transport for their day-to-day university life. Bangor is well connected by rail, making it easy to travel to and from the university and offers direct services along the North Wales Coast.

Bangor’s student accommodation has been ranked No.13 in the UK (WhatUni 2025) and the university guarantees a place in halls of residence to all new undergraduate international students who make an application by the given deadline.  

 

All the accommodation is modern and within easy walking distance of your lectures, the campus, and the city centre.  Our two student villages all have communal areas, shops, and leisure facilities on-site and there are numerous halls to choose from to suit all budgets. All accommodation prices include utility bills, wi-fi, room contents insurance, Campus Life and gym membership, and we also have 24-hour security on-site. 

Awarded a 5-Star Global Rating for Facilities under the QS Stars Rating System, Bangor University offers outstanding, world-class academic resources. These include its ocean-going research vessel Prince Madog, a Natural History Museum, a 200-seat digital cinema, a 455-seat mid-scale theatre, and beautifully maintained botanical gardens. The university also houses one of Wales’ most significant archival and rare book collections, alongside advanced facilities such as an MRI scanner, a cutting-edge Arts and Innovation Centre – Pontio, a research farm and field centre, a trading floor, a moot court, and state-of-the-art science and engineering laboratories. 

Bangor University’s Students’ Union has been ranked in the Top 35 in the UK (WhatUni 2025), reflecting its strong reputation for student experience, support, and engagement.
