The award-winning Careers team at the University Glasgow is made up of employability and international mobility experts who bridge the gap between the University and the outside world, helping students to navigate evolving job markets and develop as confident, adaptable lifelong learners.

Offering robust support to students throughout their time at Glasgow and after graduation, the Careers team run regular careers fairs, employer pop-ups and careers masterclasses throughout the year where students can speak to colleagues about their options, meet and network with a wide variety of employers and explore internship and placement opportunities both in Glasgow, the UK and abroad.

Glasgow’s trained Peer Career Support Team provide students with easy access to personalised information and support about their career, employability and next steps following university. Students can drop into The Career Studio to meet with a member of the team or book a coaching appointment with one of our qualified Career Advisors for 1:1 support.

Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland and the third largest in the UK, making it an excellent choice for students looking to make the most of their university experience. Home to top venues for live music and around 130 music events every week, Glasgow is the UK’s first UNESCO City of Music. It has a lively nightlife with hundreds of bars, pubs and nightclubs, and multiple cinemas. The city is consistently voted as the top place to shop in the UK, as well as being named the UK’s friendliest city in multiple consecutive years. In addition to the Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery on campus, Glasgow is home to more than 20 museums and galleries, and over 90 parks and public gardens, lending the city the nickname ‘Dear Green Place’.

Glasgow has excellent public transport links, with bus, train and subway (underground) travel available around the city, linking the West End – where the University is located – to the city centre. There are two central stations connecting Glasgow to the rest of Scotland and the UK, and two international airports. The city is also close to the airport and connecting modes of transport in Edinburgh.

The University of Glasgow offers a wide range of student support services designed to help students thrive academically, personally, and professionally. The International Student Support team is located centrally on campus and offer visa support and immigration advice, guidance on safety and wellbeing, and a programme of induction and social events to help students settle in and acclimatise to life in Glasgow. Also based on campus are the Disability Service, Careers Service, Student Counselling and Psychological Services, the Chaplaincy and English language support, as well as a doctor’s surgery. The Students’ Representative Council run an Advice Centre that all students can access at any point in their studies for help with any issues whether they’re academic, employment, wellbeing or financial.

Students at Glasgow can also engage with the Student Listeners, a confidential, student-led service where they can talk and share their problems online or in-person with specially trained peers in an empathetic and non-judgmental space. Together, these services create an inclusive environment where every student can feel safe and supported to achieve their potential and make the most of their time at Glasgow.

The University of Glasgow offers 12 excellent student accommodation options. At walkable distances from university, the student accommodation sites are situated around the West End and City Centre of Glasgow, close to all the best amenities, shops, parks and public transport. Most of the sites offer a range of 3-5 person and 10/12 person flats with shared kitchen spaces, whilst students have a choice of en-suite or shared bathrooms across sites.

There are also options with accessible rooms, family rooms and twin rooms available, with a wide variety of residences available to suit all preferences and budgets. Every accommodation site has on-site residential support, laundry services, parking and social spaces.

The University of Glasgow’s Gilmorehill campus combines historic architecture with modern facilities that support every aspect of student life. Students have year-round access to one of Europe’s largest university libraries, extensive study and social spaces, state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities, computer labs, and excellent cafés and food outlets. The University’s two student unions offer space for events and societies and run regular music and club nights.
Recent developments include the James McCune Smith Learning Hub, the Advanced Research Centre, and new buildings for Public Health and the Adam Smith Business School. Further development continues with the Keystone Building, a major new learning, teaching, and research facility scheduled to open in 2028-29.

Beyond Gilmorehill, the University also has campuses at Garscube, just four miles from Gilmorehill, and Dumfries, in the south-west of Scotland. Garscube is home to the university’s Veterinary Medicine facilities, including the Small Animal and Equine Hospitals, as well as outdoor sports facilities. The Dumfries campus, set within historic parkland, is the base for the School of Social & Environmental Sustainability and is a real living laboratory for outdoor learning, fieldwork, and research.

The University of Glasgow is home to a thriving community of sports clubs, societies and extracurricular opportunities. Through UofG Sport and the Glasgow University Sports Association (GUSA), students can access the university gym, swimming pool and courts on our main Gilmorehill campus as well as additional sports pitches and facilities on our neighbouring Garscube campus. Students at Glasgow can join more than 50 affiliated sports clubs, all of which cater to all levels of experience from beginners looking to try something new or enjoy the social side of sport, to competitive athletes.

Beyond sport, the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) supports more than 300 clubs and societies, covering everything from cultural and academic interests to volunteering, performance and special interest groups. Together, these opportunities enable students to pursue their passions, develop new skills, build lasting friendships and become part of a vibrant and welcoming campus community. Sustainability is a core priority at the University of Glasgow, underpinning its research, teaching, campus development, and day-to-day operations. The University has pledged to be carbon neutral by 2030 and is committed to delivering against the United Nation’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The University was the first in Europe to declare it would divest from fossil fuels by 2024, and the first in Scotland to declare a climate emergency. It is currently ranked 14th in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings.

World-leading research at Glasgow tackles global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity, renewable energy, and sustainable development. Students can focus on sustainability in their studies with the School of Social & Environmental Sustainability or select modules on climate, environment and sustainability within most subject areas. Across its campuses, the University promotes biodiversity, waste reduction, recycling, and responsible practices. Students can also get involved through volunteering with groups such as GUEST (The Glasgow University Environmental and Sustainability Team) and the Eco-Hub, a sustainable cafe, swap-shop and event space on campus.
