Making the leap from high school to university is never easy, especially when it involves relocating to a different country. But for many NCUK students, this journey marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter. One student, Caleb, now studying Film Production at the University of Salford, shares how they navigated this transition, why they chose Salford, and how their life has changed since starting university.

A Practical Path to Success
When it came time to choose a university through the NCUK network, Caleb explored all available options that offered Film Production. It wasn’t just about reputation—it was about finding the right academic fit. After reading course details, browsing blogs, and watching videos on Salford’s website, one thing stood out: the course’s practical focus.

“The course leader’s approach was more practical than theoretical. This was the game changer for me. All my other options were heavily theory-based, but I’m more of a doer. The practicality of film production at Salford really appealed to me.”

Salford’s focus on real-world experience, combined with access to world-class facilities at MediaCityUK—home to the BBC and ITV—sealed the decision.

A Bridge Between Worlds
Deciding to study abroad is a big step, but we make the process smoother and more supportive. For Caleb, the transition from their home country’s education system to the UK system felt fast—but not rushed.

“NCUK gave me the chance to bridge into the British education system in just six months. That helped me pursue what I truly love, and I’m really grateful for that support.”

Through academic preparation, university admissions guidance, and pastoral support, we empower students to confidently take the next step in their educational journey.

Life in Salford: Growth Beyond the Classroom
While the academic transition is important, so is personal growth. Since arriving at Salford in September 2024, Caleb has experienced a wealth of life-changing moments—both big and small.

“I’ve met so many people, both on campus and where I live off-campus. I’ve learned how to cook for myself, budget better, and just be more responsible overall.”

“I’m looking forward to going home over the summer, but I’m also excited about the years ahead at Salford. I’ve already grown so much, and I know there’s more to come.”
