My Life at Queen’s: Studying Accounting, Finance and Analytics as an International Student

Posted:

I’m Mitali Krishna Moorthy, from India, currently pursuing my Master’s in Accounting, Finance and Analytics at Queen’s University Belfast. Moving from India to Northern Ireland to study at Queen’s has been one of the most exciting and rewarding decisions of my life. From the very beginning, the University made my transition into international student life smooth, welcoming and full of opportunity.

Even before arriving in Belfast, I felt genuinely supported. Queen’s organised pre-departure sessions both online and in person, and I attended the offline session, which was incredibly helpful. It allowed me to meet fellow students who were also joining Queen’s and speak directly with the university team. They guided us through visas, immigration, accommodation, enrolment and registration, which removed so much uncertainty and helped me arrive feeling confident and prepared.

Academically, the MSc in Accounting, Finance and Analytics has exceeded my expectations. The programme is built around three powerful pillars – Accounting, Finance and Analytics – and is designed for today’s data-driven financial world. Alongside strong theoretical foundations, we gain practical analytical skills using industry-relevant tools, ensuring we graduate with skills employers genuinely value.

Queen’s also places a strong emphasis on employability and networking. Throughout the academic year, we heard from leading firms such as KPMG, Deloitte and Grant Thornton, who shared valuable insights into the profession. Attending the Autumn Careers Fair further helped me explore graduate and internship opportunities and better understand my future career path.

Beyond academics, student life at Queen’s is vibrant and supportive. The opportunities at Queen’s have helped me grow personally and professionally, enabling me to connect with people from all walks of life. Through these and especially through my role as a Global Student Ambassador, I’ve been able to connect with students from across the world and be part of a university that genuinely celebrates diversity.

Queen’s is home to the UK’s No.1 Students’ Union (Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2025), which sits at the heart of campus life, offering academic and wellbeing support alongside vibrant social spaces to study, meet friends, join societies, enjoy campus cafés, relax in the Union Bar or attend live events in Mandela Hall. Queen’s further supports students through generous international scholarships that help cover a wide range of study-related costs, making a high-quality education more accessible and affordable.

Life in Belfast has been another highlight. It’s one of the safest and most affordable student cities in the UK, making it ideal for international students. The friendly and welcoming atmosphere makes settling in feel natural and easy.

Looking back, choosing Queen’s University Belfast has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. With outstanding teaching, strong career focus, excellent student support and a safe, welcoming city, Queen’s offers far more than just a degree, it offers a truly enriching international student experience.
