My Journey as an International Student at LJMU: A Cultural and Academic Adventure

As a current student in the Chinese-British double degree programme at Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU), I have had a great experience. LJMU is renowned for its academic excellence and studying in the U.K. has significantly broadened my understanding of different cultures. The city of Liverpool offers an ideal living situation for international students like me, combining affordable living costs with easy access to travel throughout the UK and explore.

One of the biggest differences between the courses at Chinese universities and those at LJMU is the level of interactivity and flexibility. At LJMU, the programmes are designed to be engaging, with assignments and projects that help to prepare you for the world of work.

These guest lectures are a great way to expand our understanding of various industries and explore diverse career paths. It’s not just about getting a degree here; it’s about preparing for a successful future.
While I’ve only completed one semester so far, I’m confident that LJMU is an excellent choice for anyone pursuing a degree abroad. Many Chinese students opt to study in the UK for their undergraduate programmes and having a bachelor’s degree from a reputable university like LJMU can be a major asset. A degree from LJMU facilitates further study opportunities, increasing the likelihood of admission to prestigious master’s programmes and career opportunities once you graduate.
A Thriving Student Community
LJMU offers a wide variety of student activities. The international student community here is vibrant and diverse, providing a welcoming atmosphere that helps students from all over the world adjust to life on campus. The student union has many societies and events. There are plenty of opportunities for students to connect with both local and international peers. A highlight for me was the Chinese New Year celebration, which truly made me feel at home and like I belonged here.
Nowhere Quite Like Liverpool!
Studying at LJMU has been a good opportunity to immerse myself in British culture. During my time here, I’ve been able to explore many parts of the UK, visiting historical sites, museums, and landmarks. These experiences have given me a greater understanding of British history and culture.
One of the things I particularly love about Liverpool is its architecture and how picturesque it is. Whether it’s a sunny day, a foggy morning, or a snowy evening (my personal favourite!), Liverpool offers countless opportunities for photography. I enjoy capturing the beauty of the city and its surroundings, and every corner feels like it’s straight out of a postcard!
