Your Exam Survival Guide, According to NCUK Students

Posted:

Exam season can feel quite overwhelming, but you’re not alone in this.

We asked some of our NCUK students to share how they prepare for exams and stay motivated during this busy period. From mindset shifts to practical strategies, here are the tried-and-tested tips that helped them get through it.

Zara, a Data Science student, said:

“I’d say the key is to find balance between structure and flexibility. Create a daily schedule that helps you stay organised, but don’t be too hard on yourself when things don’t go exactly as planned. Your energy naturally fluctuates throughout the day, so be prepared to adapt – maybe you need an unexpected break or to shuffle some tasks around.

Being too rigid with your schedule can actually be counterproductive and add unnecessary stress. Instead, make your plan, do your best to follow it, but be kind to yourself when adjustments are needed.

Remember: do your best and let go of the rest!”

David, a Mechanical Engineering student from the University of Bristol, shared this:

“Don’t let the stress get to you. Break your revision into small, manageable tasks and stay consistent. Take proper breaks, eat well, and make sure you get enough sleep…seriously, it makes a huge difference.

Lastly, trust the effort you’ve already put in and focus on one exam at a time”.

Sa’idah, from Liverpool John Moores University, studying Public Health, advises that:

“To stay motivated and succeed during the exam period, I would advise current students to focus on time management by breaking study sessions and study materials into manageable chunks.

Staying positive and maintaining a balance between study and rest is also crucial.

Additionally, seeking support from peers, tutors, and family can provide encouragement and help keep stress levels in check.

Most importantly, staying focused on your long-term goals can help keep motivation high during exams and keep in mind that at the end of it all, it will be worth it!”

One tip from Hao-Hsi (Terrence) Chang, a student of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Manchester:

“I would say to focus on their goals and what they want to achieve in university.

They would realise that their studies with NCUK would help them build a strong foundation for future progression, and it would be a strong motivation”.

We hope you found these tips helpful! By staying organised, managing your time wisely, and maintaining a healthy balance between study and rest, you’ll be ready for exam season.

Good luck – we’re cheering you on!
