Upon successful completion of your undergraduate degree, you will receive an MBChB degree, a primary medical qualification (PMQ). This qualification enables you to gain provisional registration with the General Medical Council (GMC), a crucial first step towards practising medicine in the UK. With this registration, you’ll be ready to take on approved Foundation Year 1 posts, which provide an essential year of hands-on experience in clinical settings.
Completion of Foundation Year 1 is a major milestone on your medical journey, typically completed within 12 months, and is officially marked with a Certificate of Experience. Once awarded, you will be eligible to apply for full GMC registration, a vital credential for unsupervised medical practice in the NHS or private healthcare. With its robust academic foundation, practical experience, and supportive learning environment, studying Medicine at the University of Leicester prepares you for an exciting career that enables you to make a difference in the lives of others.
