Williamson Park is one of the most popular places in Lancaster.

Williamson Park is also home to Ashton Memorial, one of the most iconic landmarks in Lancaster. If you want to add some fun to your weekends, why don’t you go on a boat tour through Lancaster Canal? You will be able to travel through Lune Aqueduct, which carries Lancaster Canal over the River Lune providing a sight worth seeing. Not only will you be able to navigate the waters, but you will also have options available such as fishing, canoeing or walking.



Social events

Music lovers will find themselves at home in Lancaster. The Lancaster Music Festival gathers amazing bands from Europe, America and the UK and offers live gigs everywhere in the city across 40 different venues. There is also a Jazz Festival that takes place every September and brings together local artists in the community. Enjoying some great music and meeting lots of new people is a fantastic way of starting the new academic year!

You can find Sugarhouse Nightclub open all year round. This is the biggest club in the city, owned and run by the university’s student union and it will become your place to go and hang out with your university friends as it is exclusively opened to students! The club also offers free buses to campus so that you can move around safely.


The Assembly Rooms Emporium offers a mix of different stalls in which you can buy vintage and secondhand clothing, gifts, books and much more. You will also find a selection of the best cakes and biscuits made at the local bakeries.

Moving around Lancaster couldn’t be easier; take the bus or walk anywhere you want!

There are also plenty of areas to cycle around or to go for a run in Lancaster. Some bus companies like Stagecoach offer student passes available for a term or the full academic year, making sure that you reach to all your favourite places spending as little as possible.
