Manchester: A global city for international students

Posted:

Manchester is a vibrant, multicultural hub that offers international students an unforgettable university experience. Ranked as a top 5 student city in the UK (QS Best Student Cities 2026), Manchester combines world-class education, rich cultural heritage, and exciting career opportunities, making it a top destination for students globally.

Study in the heart of the city

At the centre of this dynamic city is Manchester Metropolitan University (Manchester Met), one of the UK’s largest and most modern universities. Home to over 5,000 international students from more 120 countries, the University offers a truly global learning environment. It has recently been awarded Modern University of the Year 2026 by The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide and has received a gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework 2023.

With a city-centre campus, students are just steps away from Manchester’s iconic music venues, sports stadiums, shopping districts, and cultural landmarks. Whether you are exploring the historic Northern Quarter, enjoying a concert at the AO Arena, or relaxing in All Saints Park, there is always something to discover.

Academic excellence and career focus

Manchester Met is known for its triple-accredited Business School, world-leading research, and strong industry connections. It is also home to one of the oldest art schools in the UK reflecting a long heritage of creativity and innovation. The University has invested over £400m in state-of-the-art facilities, including a full-sized mock courtroom, fashion and multimedia studios, and a library that is open 24/7 during the academic year.

Courses are designed with employability in mind and are often developed in collaboration with industry professionals. Students benefit from internships, placements, and career fairs throughout the year, as well as lifelong access to a digital careers service. The Future Me programme helps students plan their career paths through workshops, mentoring, and networking events with top employers such as the British Broadcasting Corporation, Manchester United Football Club, and The Hut Group.

Support every step of the way

Before arrival, the International Office provides dedicated pre-arrival support, including pre-departure webinars.  International offer holders can also join the Unibuddy community to help them connect with other students and make friends before arriving.

After arrival, the central Student Hub provides advice on visas, finances, wellbeing and accommodation, along with academic, English language and study-skills support. International undergraduate students are guaranteed university accommodation in their first year, provided they apply by the deadline. Students also benefit from career and alumni support throughout their studies and beyond.
