NCUK and Education New Zealand (ENZ) were pleased to launch and share the news of their new partnership on Friday 4 December in Taiwan, collaborating with Taipei Municipal Schools Group. The partnership between NCUK and ENZ enables students from over 30 countries to begin their study towards a New Zealand university qualification at home while borders are closed with options to progress to one of the eight New Zealand universities. This event was held at the Sheraton Grand Taipei Hotel with distinguished guests, students, parents and media all in attendance to learn about this new initiative.

This new partnership presents fantastic opportunities for students with all eight of the New Zealand universities offering more than NZD $300,000 in annual scholarships to NCUK students who progress to their institutions. Taiwanese students have the option to progress to these universities after completing the NCUK International Foundation Year at one of the six Taipei Municipal Schools Group, starting from year 10 (Zhong Zheng, YuCheng, Nangang, Chenggong, Wanfang, Jingmei).

Education New Zealand’s Chief Executive, Grant McPherson, said the qualifications are aligned with New Zealand’s future-focused approach to education, and ability to meet students’ changing needs.

In New Zealand we teach students how to think creatively and problem solve – which helps navigate the disruptive trends and impacts of globalisation that are reshaping the future of work.

The launch event also celebrated the success of the Taipei Municipal Schools Group who received the ‘Highly Recommended’ award in the ‘Special Recognition’ category at the NCUK Partner Awards 2020. The award, which was announced in November 2020 at the annual NCUK Partner Conference, recognises highly valued partners of NCUK. Led by Ms. Hui Chen Chiang (pictured left), the principal of Taipei Municipal Zhong Zheng Senior High School, the group warmly received the award with Ms Hui Chen Chiang stating:

We are a group of schools taking a three-year path in a different schooling system. We have overcome difficulties to support each other and to support students to learn. Winning this award encourages us so we believe that as long as we can continue do our part, and resolve difficulties with enthusiasm, to communicate to remove the estrangement, then our students will certainly grow in a stable environment!

NCUK would like to congratulate Taipei Municipal Schools Group on their success and look forward to seeing students progress to New Zealand universities upon their completion of the NCUK International Foundation Year.
