International Year One in Events Management

The International Year One in Events Management is a first-year undergraduate equivalent programme that builds students’ knowledge and skills in the Events Management field.

Business Economics (15 credits)

This module aims to provide business students on a level four programme with the essential economic knowledge and understanding which will enable them to be able to place business related issues and problems in the wider economic context, as well as being able to recognise the contributions that economics can make in analysing and resolving business issues and problems.

Business Operations and Technology (15 credits)

This module explores core operational systems and digital capabilities, covering topics such as supply chain coordination, quality management, process mapping, and performance metrics, as well as digital transformation, emerging technologies, lean and agile methods, and sustainable operations aligned with ESG frameworks.

By focusing on applied operational scenarios, the module develops analytical and problem-solving skills, supporting cross-functional understanding. Assessment includes an operational improvement report and an exam testing knowledge of key operational models and practices.

Organisational Behaviour (15 credits)

This module aims to give students an appreciation of what organisations are, the purpose of establishing formal organisations, and the many inter-related aspects of collective and individual behaviour that can impact on the success or otherwise of organisations.

There are different approaches to analysing organisational behaviour and these will be considered during the course of this module.

The module also addresses a number of the inter-relating facets of organisational behaviour including organisational structure, approaches to leadership and management, culture within organisations, motivation and organisational change.

Introduction to the Events Industry (15 credits)

The aim of this module is to provide an introduction to the events industry in order to prepare students for future study in Events Management and related areas.

This will cover topics such as the history and tradition of events to understand their significant role within society; key characteristics of a range of events to define and categorising them; an introduction to the size and scope of the events industry, noting the different organisations,
roles and positions available with reference to public, private and voluntary organisations; Identify the main demand-generating sources of events; analyse changes in the macro and micro-environments that may determine future trends; introduce impact assessments as a method of evaluation

Leadership and Management in Business (15 credits)

This module develops students’ understanding of leadership and management through topics such as ethical leadership, motivation, teamwork, and change models.

Combining theoretical insights with applied leadership scenarios, it equips students with the skills to analyse challenges, make ethical decisions, and adapt to contemporary business contexts. The module supports progression to undergraduate study by fostering responsible and resilient leadership capabilities, aligned with current business education standards. Assessment includes a Leadership Report and an exam testing knowledge and practical application.

Marketing in Business (15 credits)

This module explores practical marketing applications, including AI tools, customer personas, dynamic pricing, and ethical considerations. Students develop skills in market research, branding, and strategic planning, focusing on real-world scenarios and applied tasks. Assessment includes a Research & Analysis Report and a Marketing Strategy Plan, encouraging deeper learning and practical understanding of modern marketing practices.

The module aligns with current industry standards, supporting progression to business-related degrees and fostering strategic thinking and decision-making skills.

Business Finance and Accounting (15 credits)

This module introduces key financial principles, including budgeting, investment appraisal, and performance analysis, focusing on the practical application of financial data to support business decision-making.

Designed for non-specialist students, it develops essential financial literacy for core business functions such as operations, marketing, and strategic planning. Assessment includes an Applied Finance Portfolio and a final exam, ensuring students can apply financial concepts to real-world scenarios while building a strong foundation for further business-related studies.

Managing Events (15 credits)

The aim of this module is to provide an introduction to events management operations in order to prepare students for future study in Events Management and related areas.

The module aims to conceptualise events and identify their characteristics explore the organisational and management implications involved in staging events. Identify project management planning systems, identifying event aims and objectives, venue selection, health and safety and legal issues, financial planning and events promotion. Introduce students to organisation, planning managing and controlling specific types of event

How will I be assessed?

The assessment breakdown is generally 25% coursework and 75% exam.

Each semester will include formative tasks that will prepare you for the later summative assessments. You will also complete homework assignments, engage with past examination questions and other activities. For the summative assessments, you will be evaluated separately in each module.

Entry requirements

To register the International Year One in Events Management applicants must meet all of the following entry conditions:

Entry requirements
  • Have achieved at least an NCUK EAP ‘D’ grade or hold an acceptable equivalent alternative English language qualification.
  • Have achieved Grade ‘6’ in (I)GCSE Mathematics or equivalent. NCUK IFY Mathematics or NCUK International Foundation Year Half Mathematics Grade ‘D’ may also be used. For the Events Management route, (I)GCSE Grade C is sufficient.

Have:

  • obtained a minimum of 48 NCUK foundation points with a D in at least 2 subjects following study of the NCUK International Foundation Year programme

OR

  • obtained a minimum of grade ‘D’ in two relevant UK recognised ‘A’ levels.

OR

  • met one of NCUK’s country-specific entry requirements, which can be found here.
  • have completed a satisfactory entry interview designed to assess motivation, post-diploma study plans and preparedness for the programme.
